Profiles appear as each certification is checked

Each profile appears here once we have checked the professional’s IFS Institute certification and their registration. Meanwhile, all our professionals are in the directory, where you can choose by language and by what they help with.

What IFS is

Internal Family Systems sees the mind as a family of parts. Some parts work hard to keep you safe or in control; others carry old hurt, fear or shame. Beneath them all is your Self: the calm, compassionate core that every person has.

In IFS sessions you learn to notice your parts, understand what each one is trying to do for you, and let the Self lead. Parts that have been stuck in old roles can then relax, and the burdens they carry can be released.

What IFS can help with

  • Trauma and difficult memories
  • Anxiety, panic and constant worry
  • Depression and low mood
  • Shame, self-criticism and low self-worth
  • Anger and inner conflict
  • Relationship and family difficulties

Your professional will talk with you about whether IFS suits what you are going through.

The qualities of Self

IFS describes the Self through eight qualities that people notice more of as therapy goes on.

CuriosityInterested rather than judging
CompassionKind towards yourself and others
ConfidenceTrusting you can handle what comes
CourageAble to face what you avoided
ClaritySeeing things as they are

Questions people ask

What is IFS therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a model of psychotherapy developed by Dr Richard Schwartz. It sees the mind as made up of different parts, each trying to help in its own way, and a core Self that is calm, curious and compassionate. In sessions you get to know these parts and help the ones carrying old pain to let it go.

What can IFS help with?

IFS is used for trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-worth, shame, anger, relationship difficulties and inner conflict, such as feeling torn between what you want and what you do. Your professional will talk with you about whether it suits what you are going through.

Who is listed on this page?

Only professionals whose IFS Institute certification we have checked: Certified IFS Therapists, Certified IFS Practitioners and Approved IFS Clinical Consultants. We also check each professional’s registration or licence where they practise, as we do for everyone on Therapy O’Clock.

Does IFS work online?

Yes. IFS is a talking therapy and works well by video. Sessions on Therapy O’Clock take place in a private video room in your browser, with no app to install and no recordings.

How long does IFS therapy take?

It depends on what you bring. Some people come for a few sessions on one difficulty; others work for months on deeper patterns or trauma. You agree the pace with your professional and can stop at any time.

Is this for emergencies?

No. Sessions are booked in advance, for adults (18+). If you are in danger now, contact your local emergency number.

I am a certified IFS professional. Can I join?

Yes. Apply with your registration or licence and the link to your IFS Institute profile. There is no joining fee; you set your own fee and hours and keep 85% of each paid session.
